Three terrasse house

The three terrasse house was the first built project that I worked on, however ironically it was one of the last to be completed. The drawings began while I was still a student, starting the second year of the masters degree program at U de M. The house’s form was a result of a small narrow site and the movement of the sun. The house is meant to generate a sort of multi-level topography for a site which is quite narrow and straight forward, with the aim of adding some complexity by contributing new ways of experiencing the site and for the occupants to interact with one another.
The house is built into the sloped site; the occupants arrive through the gallery which frames the view of the lake and leads to the primary terrasse. It was important for the house to add to the experience of the site by being integrated into the landscape and to contribute to it’s experience.
The ground level is for children and guests, the intermediary level holds common spaces and a large lakefront terrasse which is sheltered by a ten foot cantilever. The third level houses the master bedroom and two additional terrasses, one with a pergola and the other a hammock.
